Welcome to the end of another year! As we reflect on the past 12 months, it’s important to take a moment to celebrate our accomplishments and look ahead to what the future holds.

The Nonprofit Directory serves as the region’s one-stop-shop for critical information about the region’s Nonprofit Organizations and the impactful work that they are doing in Horry and Georgetown Counties.

Emma Ruth Brittain, Cheryl Cail, Wallace Evans, Jr., and Robert Hucks, II, have been elected to the Waccamaw Community Foundation’s board of directors.

“We really work very closely to connect donors with the nonprofits needed in our community. We’re kind of the intermediary, we’re the ones that connect those two and try to help build resiliency for the nonprofits,” said Michael Mancuso, Waccamaw Community Foundation Executive Director.

Sustain SC is thrilled to announce the launch of its Land and Water Action Fund, a new conservation fund dedicated to protecting South Carolina’s precious natural resources. Google contributes the first donation to the fund with a $500,000 grant, which will go toward permanently protecting a portion of Waites Island from development.

The Waccamaw Community Foundation, the Grand Strand’s leading philanthropic organization, has joined Google in providing matching $500,000 grants that will go toward permanently protecting a portion of Waites Island from development.

Waties Island, one of South Carolina’s last remaining undeveloped barrier islands, has been the target of conservation efforts for decades and a recent land purchase through a donation by tech giant Google seeks to expand on that.

Proposals for the Mini-Grants, which will be for up to $2,500 each, will be accepted through September 30, 2022.

The Waccamaw Community Foundation presented the Knight Foundation grant at Monday’s city council meeting.
