Murrells Inlet, S.C. – 9/22/2025- Waccamaw Community Foundation (WCF) is proud to announce it has officially earned accreditation from the Community Foundations National Standards Board, the nation’s highest measure of excellence for community foundations.
Of the 11 community foundations in South Carolina, WCF becomes only the fourth to achieve this distinguished accreditation. Nationally, fewer than two-thirds of community foundations meet the rigorous requirements to be accredited, making this recognition a significant milestone in the Foundation’s 25-year history of serving Horry and Georgetown Counties.
“This achievement affirms that WCF meets the highest standards for transparency, accountability, integrity, and sound governance,” said Robert Hucks, Chair of the WCF Board of Directors. “It is a mark of trust for our donors, nonprofit partners, and community that we are deeply committed to stewarding resources wisely and building a stronger future for our region.”
“The Waccamaw Community Foundation has always been about building something lasting for this region,” said Michael L. Mancuso, President & CEO of Waccamaw Community Foundation. “Earning National Standards Accreditation reinforces our promise to donors and partners that their gifts are safeguarded, their intentions honored, and their impact multiplied.”
The National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations® program requires accredited foundations to demonstrate compliance with 26 rigorous standards covering donor services, resource development, grantmaking, community leadership, and financial and legal accountability. Achieving accreditation confirms that WCF operates with excellence and upholds the trust placed in it by donors and the community.
Founded in 1999, WCF currently manages more than $42 million in charitable assets across donor-advised funds, scholarships, organizational endowments, and field-of-interest funds. Through its mission of connecting people with causes they care about, the Foundation has awarded millions in grants and scholarships to strengthen education, healthcare, human services, the arts, and conservation throughout the Waccamaw Region.
With this recognition, WCF continues to live out its commitment: Deeply Rooted. Locally Committed. Built for Tomorrow.
